Autism is a developmental disability significantly affecting verbal and nonverbal communication and social interaction, which can range from mild to severe. It is usually evident before age 3 and affects a child’s educational and social performance.
The only scientifically valid methodology to teach a child on the autism spectrum is applied behavior analysis (ABA). Team Heroes Inc. is structured on the premises of Applied Behavior Analysis (taking a large skill and breaking it down into smaller more manageable skills). This helps to increase appropriate behaviors (increase on-task behavior, and social interactions), teach new skills (life skills, communication skills, or social skills), maintain behaviors (self control and self monitoring procedures), generalize or to transfer behavior from one situation to another and reduce interfering behaviors (i.e. self-stimulatory or self injury).
Team Heroes understands that if you have met one child with autism, you have met one child with autism. Just as no two people are the same; no two people with autism are the same. Since each child is different, that means they learn differently as well. Team Heroes Sports attempts to meet each child’s individual needs while they are participating on the field. This is accomplished by creating picture schedules, token boards, social stories, and whatever other assistance the child needs.
